Religions refer to the soul with a fate purposely fixed for the future, resting in idleness or suffering in the punishment interminable.
The world is, for the former, a place of immediate pleasures with the inevitable presence of suffering, which is part of its imperfection; for the latter, it is "vale of tears" or "place of exile".
